Find some inspiration with faveup

faveup calls itself “a simple gallery of inspirational design.” When you visit faveup, you are welcomed with a wealth of design that ranges across business cards, logos, flash and css websites. The faveup name reflects the ability for users to vote on a design and increase its ranking. The user-created designs are steadily increasing the amount of content the site holds as more users are joining and uploading every day.

faveup mentions that it has big plans in the making. Within the year faveup plans “to take inspiration to a whole new level” and ensures that the domain name “faveup” will make a lot more sense. You can expect an update on this as soon as we find out what is going on over there.

I recommend you visit this site if you ever come upon designer’s block. There is some great work to be seen here. Go get inspired.

Logopond: A pool of creation

Logopond, simply put, is a web community built upon the creations and critiquing of user created logos. The site has a large collection containing a wealth of user created logos, some a little rough and some that are absolutely gorgeous. Through a comment based system, designers are able to get feedback on the logo design they upload. Much of what is uploaded are finished works, but some use the website as a design community they use to help them build their creations throughout the entire process.

Though the logos are the foundation for the website, there is much more being offered. There are job listings for designers trying to find a home, a list of recommended resources for designers, articles containing informative news and inspiration, interface with flickr, a community forum and more. All of these elements add up to be a creative playground for the design community.

Overall with it’s clean layout and great content, I would say Logopond is a great spot for designers to congregate and create. The business aspects make it even more appealing to those who are serious about design as a lucrative endeavor. Does Logopond appeal to you as a designer? What possibilities does this offer you?

A Few Awesome Commercials

Just getting the ball rolling here. These are a few of my favorite commercials.

Here is a beer commercial for Carlton Draught from 2006 I believe. Epic ad, that's all there really is to describe it. A 30 second spot couldn't get much more epic. Kinda like a Dragonforce song, ya know?

When I first saw this Toyota commercial I was amazed. Not that it's the most amazing ad ever, but I thought the idea behind it was beautiful. Who would have ever thought that World of Warcraft + Toyota + TV = awesome?

And this next commercial is possibly my favorite of all time. This ad incorporates joyous music, bright colors and some very smart and awesome copy. I've watched this commercial many times just because it is so much fun to look at. I love it. Euro-lingo.

Learn what you can do with Squidoo!

Squidoo is a website that is designed for people to create a single webpage on any topic of their choosing. These single pages are called lenses and can contain viewpoints, information, expertise and recommendations. Although content can be placed on these lenses about any topic a person can think of, that is not the only reason to create a lens. Through recommendations of products, websites and more, a person is able to create ad revenue for themselves, Squidoo and/or a charity of their choice. Though many people would only make less then a dollar a month for themselves or a charity doing this, some people work hard to create a wealth of lenses that could generate thousands of dollars in total revenue.

One important thing to mention is that Squidoo lenses are often found fairly frequently in Google searches. Squidoo is a spawn of the Web 2.0 era where everything on the web is being found on high-traffic all encompassing websites. Marketers have been using Squidoo to promote products for some time now, and more are heading its way. Squidoo is a very cool and original idea. Not only are marketers using it to promote products, but all others that fall in the majority of the Internet community are using Squidoo to share ideas and promote their own websites or blogs. Squidoo is ready to become the next MySpace, the next Digg.

From a planning perspective, Squidoo offers some unique opportunities. I picture using this platform much like trying to spread a viral video for a product. On Squidoo I believe an advertiser could capture lots of attention by creating a nifty story or sequence of stories that include or end with a product. Like a viral video, a blatant ad would probably not work; it would have to be much more subtle. However, if a marketer could build a reputation as some sort of guru in a specific field, people may flock to that person’s lenses to see the products that are recommended. There are thousands of people posting lenses, but an account planner could create a lens in a specific category, such as technology, and cater to a specific audience about specific products they would likely be interested in.

What unique opportunities do you believe Squidoo can offer advertisers? Are there some good possibilities here, or is it more of a gimmick?
