yo.

as i am noob about hardware, i'd like to ask some questions ;p

my sister has got amd sempron 3400+ (1,8ghz), 1gb ram and geForce 6100GS with included graphics (it uses 256mb of ram memory). i think it's pretty good for elder games, but the point is that all are working soo slow...

her OS is Vista business edition (even Aero works perfect, but games not O_o). games i've tested on this comp were: Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Flatout 1, Tomb Raider Anniversary - all were working slow. i've installed all drivers for graphics card, motherboard, but nothing has changed. ill try to download newest version, but im not sure - can it be fault of vista+drivers incompatibility?

coming back to games. Return to Castle Ws worked perfect on 32mb graphic card, 600mhz processor and 256mb of ram on highest details, Anniversary on pentium 3ghz/512mb/gf4 mmx 64mb, flatout 1 - on same comp as TR... wtf is going on? i think her comp is way better than theese.

help pls i <3 u.

1.) I suggest you to buy a cheap (not newest) agp card (if there's a PCI-Express slot buy a PCIe card)
There are good graphic cards for about 100 bucks. In general onboard graphic just sucks hard.

2.) if you don't really need vista, use windows XP ! VIsta is currently not the best to use, when drivers are optimized and so on it should be faster then XP but for now I would still use XP...

3.) are there any cpu-intensive programms running in the background, such as a virus scanner (did you try to disable them?)

however this hardware should do the job with old games as you said, maybe it really is a problem of vista, have you tried to disable Aero ? Maybe this is the problem (eating too much resources)

looks like i've found the reason - i found in system settings that graphic acceleration was set to "software" :l ill check after installing new software ( i mean drivers, they are installing for ages ;l )

btw. playing the sims 2 is a bit strange for 17 year old woman but ok, i don't care till she doesn't touch my comp :]
