What are people outside the U.S. hearing about the disaster and relief efforts?

Just wondering.

I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Katrina barely missed up... But even though i live near where the action is at.. It's the media that's feeding other places the truth.. and some false information. But eh.. It seems quite calm now. Other than the refugees in the centers and whatnot.

It's a damning reflection of a society that the moment police/ government control is removed they degenerate into anarchy.....

People were not shooting/raping each other after the tsunami hit, they were helping each other.

Katrina was one part of the problem. Social issues are another.

Aside from these points I always thought a city below sea level was a bit of a non-starter!

You can only hold the sea at bay for so long....

We gave them a weeks warning, shelter, and supplies before it hit, what else could we do? Now we are exacuating them. How can you blame someone for a hurricane?

you can't. but you have to admit that there could have been a speedier response by the federal government when they saw the video feeds right after Katrina was downgraded to a tropical depression. assuming our government watches cnn and stuff.

I agree, the U.S help was rather slow for a country of its economy per head, standard and size,

In Poland non-gov organizations has already send help (money and people) to New Orlean. Goverment is still thinking how to help New Orlean. This is how all goverments fucked up with people.

I find it sort of amusing, in a bad kind of way, how it took a storm of near-biblical proportions for people to realise how much segregation is going on...

It's not really segregation, it's more like neglect.
