Mike Matthews Architect

History

I studied at the schools of architecture in Oxford and Newcastle, and eventually progressed to becoming a Chartered Architect. I worked for many years in large and small architectural practices, and for two local authorities. Having carried out a number of private commissions over the years in addition to the designs in other offices I decided to set up my own practice 10 years ago.

I also obtained a professional qualification in IT, and for some years worked in computing, being CAD Manager for a large practice and then for J Sainsbury plc, where I was project manager for their first Virtual Reality pilot scheme.

Professional Experience

I have experience of all aspects of architectural practice, from feasibility to final account, including cost control, and work on a number of listed buildings, spread across many areas of England and Wales. This includes residential projects from many individual houses for private clients to local authority housing schemes, and extensions, refurbishments, and many barn conversions. Other buildings worked on include factories, warehouses, offices, conference centres, churches, shops, hotels. Value of projects worked on range from a few thousand pounds to several million.

I have also advised planning committees on architectural matters, and served on RIBA and other committees.
