Thesis Research Seminar (TRS) is a two-semester required course for graduate students on the degree tracks of Translation Studies and Bilingual Lexicography. Its purpose is to expose students to the fundamentals of research and to structure and organize the research activities that will support and inform MA and Ph.D. thesis projects. Students will experience the standards of academic rigor required for academic research and learn to work on the platform of a seminar to develop significant research topics and ideas and to conduct meaningful and focused investigations. Innovative and interdisciplinary researches that are geared to the practical needs of the society and/or contributive to the advancement of linguistic and translational studies will be especially encouraged.

Biweekly sessions will be held for
discussions on research methodology and on students’ proposed research topics,
research designs, and thesis development. Students are requested to paste their
thesis proposals and reports on the work in progress of their thesis research
into a designated online forum for peer review before presenting them in class.
Towards the end of the course, students should submit to course instructor(s)
their finalized thesis research proposal in a form.
The course marks will be determined by the following components:
(1) seeking and sharing quality research resources (10%)
(2) class attendance, raising and responding to questions, participation in classroom/online discussion and in exploratory research projects of the class (30%)
(3) research methodology presentations (30%)
(4) thesis proposal and general progress made in the thesis project (30%)

1-5: Draft version of the thesis submitted to the advisor.

6-10: “Blind review” version of the thesis signed by the advisor submitted
to the Department of English.
November
1-5: Revised version of the thesis submitted to the advisor.
November
25: Final version of the thesis submitted to the advisor for signature and
recommendation to the Department of English for oral examination.

“论文研讨”课是为翻译研究方向和双语词典学方向硕士与博士研究生开设的一门专业必修课,旨在向学生介绍科学研究的基本知识与方法,并为硕士与博士论文的选题、课题设计与研究内容提供研讨平台。通过课程学习,学生将掌握科学研究与高层次研修所必需的严格的学术规范,学会在集体研讨框架下寻找研究思路、确定有价值的研究课题及对课题进行有意义的深入探究的能力。教师将对创新性与学科交叉型选题提供支持,鼓励同学选择适应社会需求、有助于推进语言和翻译两学科发展的课题进行论文研究。

本课程时间为两学期,双周上课。课程内容包括研究方法研讨以及学生论文开题设计与研究进展情况研讨。学生在把自己的论文开题报告与研究进展情况报告提交课堂讨论前,须先将其粘贴在指定的网络论坛上,供其他同学阅读与评论。课程结束前,学生须以《研究生学位论文开题报告表》的形式提交开题报告的最终完成稿。
决定课程总成绩的具体项目为:
