Gauntlets
The RAF was aware of the dangers of fire. To prevent serious burns a set of
gloves and gauntlets were issued.
The development of the RAF flying gauntlets was aimed at getting pilots to wear
them.
Since fire wasn't the only enemy, gauntlets were developed to heat the wearer's
hands.
Later, with pressurised and heated aeroplanes, the gauntlets became obsolete and
gloves were introduced.
