Oxygen masks
At the beginning of World War Two oxygen supply was in its infancy. The first
mask was a constant flow mask. This meant that the oxygen flowed constantly into
the mask. This wasn't a very economic system, not to mention a dangerous one. In
case of fire, the constant flow of oxygen directed a veritable blowtorch at the
pilot's face.
During the war a spectacular increase in technology
regarding the distribution of oxygen was achieved.
The oxygen masks and attached
microphones used by the RAF during WWII can be found on the following pages.
