Making a Custom Soundtrack for MVC2 or CVS2 for Playstation 2

Version 3.0
by Steve F

I just want to start off by explaining to anyone interested that this is a time consuming process. I would say if you flawlessly followed these directions, you could be done in a few hours, but no doubt there will be mistakes, tweaking, etc. that will lengthen that.

I also want to assure everyone that you either need to:
A) Have a way to play backup discs on your PS2 (Modchip, swap disc, etc.)
or
B) Have a fat PS2 and a network adapter, so you can play the game image off of a Hard Drive. (with HDLoader or HDAdvance) (this is the preferred method, you will not have to waste discs if you make a mistake)

In this tutorial, I will tell you how to:

1) Use either your PS2 CVS2 or MVC2 disc or an image to extract the original sound files.
2) Take whatever music you want to use, and change it to game-suitable formats.
3) Insert your music into the game.
4) Burn your Remix to a DVD or load it onto your Hard Drive.

It may seem simple, but there are many, many steps involved with each of these things.

First of all, there is a VERY helpful tutorial by ComboMasher that shows you how to do many of these things for use in a Dreamcast music swapping.

Though, the PS2 has a slight problem if you follow this method I will explain later.

Step One. Extracting the data from your PS2 Disc

The first and most important thing you need is either a copy of the PS2 disc for either of the games youd like to remix, or an image of the disc, preferably in a .ISO format.
Ill start with the disc method, as it will result in you having the .ISO anyway
(If you have a .ISO already, skip down to Part 2)

Part One. Ripping your PS2 Disc into a .ISO

You will need:
DVD Decrypter
http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/SetupDV...er_3.5.4.0.exe
(if this link goes down, someone tell me so I can supply a new one)

or another piece of software that will rip your disc into a .ISO (Im using DVD Decrypter because it is straightforward and simple to use)

Youll want to open up DVD Decrypter, and select the source as the drive in which you have inserted your PS2 disc (you HAVE inserted it, havent you?).
You want Mode>ISO>Read (or just R on the keyboard)
Select the destination folder ( I dont like to be pushy, but something easy to access would be a good ideaex C:\CVS2\Image or C:\MVC2\Image
Then hit the bottom button with the green arrow in the center.
In a few minutes it should have ripped your disc into an .ISO file wherever you have chosen.

Now you have a .ISO file with the image of your game, and you need to extract the data from it.

Part Two. Extracting the data from your .ISO

You will need :
IsoBuster, Power Iso, or any other software that will extract data from a CD or .ISO
(If you need links, Ill see what I can scrounge, but for now, just google it up)

This is pretty simple, you just need to extract all the data into a folder on your hard drive. I know both of these programs has and option for that
(Id recommend in the same place as the image, maybe a sub-folder marked MVC2 Data or CVS2 Data believe me, remembering where stuff is is vital ex. (C:\CVS2\CVS2 Data\ or C:\MVC2\MVC2 Data\)

Youve just finished one, very important step of the process...

Continue to Step Two...
