The cranny is used to hide resources from attacking armies that would otherwise steal them. It is an essential part of the defensive strategy for a player to upgrade a cranny to minimize the amount of resources taken and make themselves a less appealing target for raiding.
NOTE: The amount of resources protected is per resource. This means that if your cranny says it protects 1000 resource, understand that it protects 1000 each of wood/clay/iron/crop.
Gauls have the advantage that the cranny can hold twice as much as the other tribes. The Teutons have the advantage that the enemy cranny is only two thirds as effective as it would be otherwise (a cranny that can hold 1000 units of each resource would appear to a teuton raiding party as only being able to hold 667 units).
A level 10 cranny allows the building of multiple new level 1 crannys which could be increased up to level 10.

*The total capacity is the total number of units of each resource type the cranny can hide.
Tribe advantages:
Gauls: the cranny is twice as big
Teutons: enemy crannies will only preserve 66% of the hidden resources.
