Defense

From Travian v2 Wiki (S2-S6), the encyclopedia anybody can edit

Introduction: The Travian regions are a dangerous place, with your village prone to attack anytime... well, that's how things were in the past. Every player in every region wants to be the greatest through building an empire and conquering others or raising settlements. Thus they get resource hungry and are on a raiding spree, at times pulverizing others.

In times such as these, you would definitely want a good defense. The 'Defense' makes it more difficult for an enemy to enter into and take advantage of your village. Defense are of two types... 1) Trhough Walls and 2) Trhough Troops

Walls: Walls, are strong structures on the outer of your village. Click on the outer circle in the area where the tooptip reads 'Wall level X'.

The higher the level of your walls, the more difficult it is for the enemy to enter your village. But the walls are a passive form of defense, since they can be broken down and become useless.

Troops: Troops can be used for both attack and defense, but they always protect your village, when attacked upon. Some troops are specialist in defense and others in offense, while yet others are somewhere in between the two ends. However, all of them will fight against an invasion.

Palace: also Palace or Residence gives you a bonus (like to have some quite undestroyable troops).

However, if you find yourself in a position having very few troops, against a potentially large enemy, it may be better to send your troops away. And if your cranny can protect all your resources during that time, nothing like it. Any excess raidable resource can be used before the attack.

Upgrades: The quality of your troops and wall can be increased by building and upgrading the Armoury, Black Smith and Tournament Square, among other buildings.

Bottom Line: The bottom line is that, you will be able to defend an attack if you have a lot of good quality and mainly defensive troops, gaurding a wall upgraded as strong as possible... provided the enemy's troops aren't strong enough to break the wall and catch your troops off guard.

Ofcourse, there's a saying that goes, "Offense is the best defense", but that's another article altogether...
