Travian offers an exciting time for each type of player. In order to be able to play the way you would prefer, you should concentrate on the tribe you choose during registration.
If in you want to settle and act peacefully, you should pay attention to, and protect your resources with a hiding place against raiders. In addition you can form an alliance with other players and close alliances, so that they can mutually protect you. A good defensive tribe are the Gauls and Romans.
You can also choose to be the fighters/raiders of Travian, and take unprotected resources from strangers' villages. You can ally and share your plunder with others! A good offensive tribe are the Teutons and Romans, with their expensive cavalry.
As you to play, no matter what you chose, there are many possibilities and outcomes for you and your villagers!
A concrete game goal doesn't matter unless you are having fun!
