How to use the chat

From Travian v2 Wiki (S2-S6), the encyclopedia anybody can edit

Jump to: navigation, search

As many of you will know, there exists a Travian.com chat, you can find this chatroom, by clicking on 'Chat', in the leftside menu. After doing so, you'll enter a channel in which you can chat with other people about Travian and other stuff.

Another way to reach the chat is via an IRC client, mIRC for example. It's getting a bit more difficult now, but no worries, I will explain everything to you.

The chatbox, called #travian.com has become a hanging place of 70-100 users. The chatroom itself is situated on a server (place which enables you to chat online) with about 300.000 users across the world. As a consequence there have been some downsides, like takeovers and virusses, mainly due to the fact that we have been living on one of the biggest irc servers.

After some consultations with the Traviancrew, we decided we wanted to have our own server. Fortunately we had some good contacts and thanks to them, we now have our very own server.

The advantadges:

  • We've got our own Travian support server.
  • We've got channels, which we can administer ourselves, since chances are very slim the names have been taken.
  • You're able to get the entire list of channels in no time, and the list will actually be usefull.
  • You're able to register you're nickname, so no one can take it from you.
  • You can register your alliancename(s) without any trouble.
  • The chance to get a virus is reduced to almost zero, because we're on a very small server.
  • Just travian people. All the people you meet on this server will have a connection with travian.
  • You won't get kicked of the channel if you copy paste three sentences.
  • You're allowed to have a longer nick.

But how do I get there, and how does it all work?

What's this IRC thing you're talking about anyway?
IRC is short for 'Internet Relay Chat'. So it's a chatprogram.

What's mIRC
mIRC is a programm you can download at http://www.mirc.com/get.html You can connect to IRC Travian via mIRC following the instructions below. (Experienced users; the address is irc.travian.com)

What are the new server functions? Does Q still exists?
Q does no longer excist on this server. Instead, we use IRC Services that have different names for each function. Examples: nickserv for nickname registration and settings, chanserv for channel registration and management and many others. Some examples are given below.

Nickserv allows you to register your account.

/msg nickserv help
/ns register password your@email.address
/ns identify password
/ns set password newpassword

Chanserv allows you to create your own channel.

/msg chanserv help
/cs register #channel password description
/cs sop/aop/hop/vop #channel add/del nickname

Memoserv allows you to send messages to an offline contact.

/msg memoserv help
/ms send nickname tekst
/ms read last (to check your last memo)

Botserv allows you to have your very own bot.

/msg botserv help
/bs botlist (bots available)
/bs assign #channel botname

You can always change your nick by typing the following command:

/nick newnick

mIRC manual

After installing mIRC, you can run it. You will see the following. (e.g the red bar won't be red but blue.)

1.PNG

Click 'Continue' and you will see the next window. Enter your personal information, the way I did.

2.PNG

Afterwards you'll go one button down with your cursor. So instead of 'Connect' you'll go to Servers: Click 'Add' and enter the data you see in the screen below.

3.PNG

Click 'ok' and you will see a lightningbold in the lefttopcorner. This means 'connect'.

After connecting, type the following command:

/join #channelname
