ScoutsFrom Travian v2 Wiki (S2-S6), the encyclopedia anybody can editEach tribe has its own variety of Scouts or spies. Roman and Gaul scouts are horsemen; the Teuton scouts are on foot. Scouts have no offensive capability. A scout may "attack" alone and return safely, bringing information about resources and enemy units or defenses. Only enemy scouts can attack against incoming scouts, and since scouts have attack 0, no enemy scouts will ever die during a scouting action. If the scouted player has no scouts, he will not notice the scouting player has scouted him. This is why you are advised to keep at least 1 scout around in every village, so you notice you have been scouted. When the scouted player has 2 scouts, they can stop 1 incoming scout, so that he does not return home. The scouting player does not get any information this way. For more examples, try the combat simulator. Many players consider "scouting" a third form of offense, next to "attack" and "raid". The normal attack/raid rules therefore not always work completely. The "scouting" mode only happens when a player sends an attack or raid containing only scouts!
