Yesterday was one of the most exciting days ever for the team!. We spent the whole day over TVE facilities in Torrespaña, and we had a unique opportunity of learning how a real TV programme is made, stage by stage!.
We started the day visiting “A Ciencia Cierta” editorial office where Esteban Sánchez-Ocaña and Inmaculada León were writing the articles for the programme. Then we edited the footage filmed on our lab to prepare a nice video about our project and visited TVE 24 Hrs facilities. After a nice meal with all the team, we went to the make-up studio
:

After that weird experience, there was still time to have a coffee and meet Juan Nebrera, the other man to be interviewed by Esteban in this edition of his programme. Then the time to go to the studio came…It was a bit strange as it was a green Chroma room, with just a table on it!!

The programme went smooth and Héctor was not as nervous as he first expected. We are really happy with the result!! We had a bye-bye coffee with “A Ciencia Cierta” team, but we will meet them again in Bordeaux, as Inmaculada Leon in going to give media coverage to the campaign!!.
On the following photos you can see Esteban and Inma with the team. Thank you very much!!

On these links, you can see the fragment of “A Ciencia Cierta” about “Spain in Space”:
First part.- Microgravity research and interview with Héctor
Second part.- Interview with Juan Nebrera
“A Ciencia Cierta” visit was over, but not the day at TVE. We met Rafael Lobo, “La 2 Noticias” journalist who is going to make a report about the team and the campaign. We talked about our project and the campaign itself, and then he, very kindly, showed us around the facilities where News are made. We received great explanations from people working on each section and learned a lot about TV! Thank you very much, TVE team!!
Do you remember I told you some time ago I decided to follow Aeronautical Engineering courses after watching a report made by “La 2 Noticias” about parabolic flights?? Lorenzo Milá was the journalist who presented that report and Rafael gave me the opportunity of meeting him. It was an exciting moment when I told him my story!

To finish this amazing day, Rafael let us watch the News while being recorded, an experience to be never forgotten!!. We want to thank Rafael for spending the whole evening with us and for introducing us to such a lot of interesting people, as well as “La 2 Noticias” team for supporting the team!!. We’ll meet them again when they come to our lab to make the report about the campaign!!
On this last photo you can see Eleazar and Héctor with “La 2 Noticias” team. Rafael is the second on the right

Last Thursday the team was invited by Esteban Sánchez-Ocaña to be interviewed at “Emprendedores“, a RNE 5 (Spanish National Radio) program directed by Pedro Meyer
about different Spanish technical projects that lead to a daily life improvement.
Eleazar and Héctor were at RNE studios and met Esteban and Pedro, two great spanish journalists who have directed a lot of really interesting programs! After the interview, Esteban showed us around Prado del Rey facilities and we had time to know something more about Esteban’s amazing professional life.
On this photo you can see Esteban (left) talking to Pedro (right) at RNE 5 studio.

“Emprendedores” will be broadcasted on Sunday, June 11th 10:00 (GMT+1) on RNE 5!! You can listen to it on real time here, or wait for us to upload the mp3 version on this site!. We are waiting for all your comments!!
We’ll meet Esteban again next Monday, when we are invited to his program “A Ciencia Cierta” that will be broadcasted via satellite and can be viewed by all our supporters who live abroad!

Temperature sensing is one of the most important points of our experiment. National Instruments has already provided us with the data acquisition system, but we still need the temperature sensors (Thermocouples).
TC is an international leading company specialized in Temperature sensing, measurement and control. This Monday, June 5th in the afternoon, we visited their offices in Madrid looking for expertise advice and colaboration with our project.
We met Pablo Bosch, TC sales manager, and he adviced us about which kind of thermocouples fit the best our requirements and also about their instalation on the experiment itself (watertightness of the wires leaving the fluid chambers). Now we will wait for a response about their colaboration with the team!

This Monday, June 5th, we visited 3M factory, near Madrid’s Airport and received the fluids needed for performing the experiment.
Once there, Luis Tello very kindly showed us the laboratory where he is actually working and explainded us about different 3M products tested there. We could hardly imagine such a wide range of applications for their engineered fluids!!
We will keep in contact with this company for further colaboration, but we want to thank Luis and all the 3M team for their support, It has been a pleasure to colaborate with you!!
Here you can see a photo of Luis Tello (Left), some team members and the fluid’s tanks (center)

Last Friday, June 2nd, the team went back to INTA to meet Manuel Reina, engineer of payloads and discuss technical issues about the experiment.
We received very useful advices and the design will be updated to take them into account. They solved our doubts and the experiment will be improved in order to make it even safer and easier to build.
Next Friday another meeting will be held at INTA facilities to talk about the possibility of testing our experiment in a future spanish satellite. We are really looking forward to it!!

Today we had a great experience giving lecture in Madrid’s book fair. UPM University invited us under the slogan “University Adventurers” to explain what is microgravity, which ways are used nowadays to achieve it, what is a parabolic flight and, of course, our proyect.
We had a very nice audience including University’ representatives, students, colleagues and also some children who were really interested in space flights and made the lecture even more satisfactory with their doubts and questions.:)
We would like to thank Mr. Fernández Cañadas, of UPM for inviting us and Mr. Tello, of 3M for attending to our lecture on Sunday!
As promised, here you can watch footage of the event. We are very sorry for the quality of the sound, but there was plenty of people outside the room of the conference. :S
Héctor started the lecture; then Eleazar explained different ways to achieve microgravity. Juanlu talked about parabolic flights and Tomás explained our proyect. Finally the public had the opportunity to ask their doubts.
We are looking forward to your comments about this event!!. If you want a copy of the slide presentation, please visit our contact section and we will send it to you asap!!

The team has been invited to give lecture this sunday during Madrid’s Book Fair, a really important social event that brings a lot of people, children and students to the well-known Retiro Park to buy rare books, meet writers and attend lectures about different cultural events.
Turbinators lecture will take place at UPM University stand on Sunday 4th, at 11:30 am and will consist on a spreading explanation about microgravity and the need of researching in low gravity conditions. Then we’ll focus on Parabolic Flights to finish with a brief description of our project.
We want to invite everybody to assist to this event, but as we know many of our supporters live abroad, the lecture will be filmed and the footage will be avaliable on this site. The topics to be explained will be subject of specific posts along the campaign!!

This morning, the team has visited again National Instruments offices in Madrid to ultimate the cooperation in signal acquisition systems. We were given a small lecture about PXI systems, their architecture and the related software, including a LabView “Getting Started” course.
Then we received the equipment to be used by the team during the campaign. It is a SCXI (signal conditioning system) mounted on the same chassis as the PXI (data acquisition system).

With this only device we’ll be able to get all the data from the experiment and visualize real time heat distributions as well as the images captured by video cameras to analize bubbles geometry. On the other hand, these systems also let us control via switches all the tasks to be performed by the computer without using the mouse or keyboard, and so avoid getting sick!. The thermostatic system will be also controlled by this equipment.
On this picture you can see the team receiving the system from NI representatives. Thanks a lot for your cooperation!

As soon as the team reached back the laboratory, the PXI was positioned on its definitive place to took the first glance at the experiment layout. Fluids’ second containment has been simulated by one of its Lexan walls.
