Well enough has been said and discussed about this topic to the point of thoughtlessness on my part. Frankly, I think of only this thing, instead for waiting to come in power for the upliftment of Marathi Manoos why don't Bal Thackeray and Raj Thackeray who seem to have huge amount of money thanks to their real estate investments do some ground work for the poor. They can be a worthy opponent to the incompetent Congress and its crooks but alas it pursues itself in petty ventures. As a person who thinks Marathi is his second language, if I was in place of Bal or Raj, I would have ensured that every Maharashtrian should get his basic education first. After which provide him with an environment (of government bureaucracy and systems) wherein it is the simplest thing in the world to start a industry (check out the australia support center for starting a business). A small / medium / large industry, I as a leader would provide them all the basic amenities to fulfill their dreams. No local farmer / worker would feel like he could have achieved more if he would have got something more.
Its a tall task, requires tremendous amount of work on ground rather than talk in air. Lets hope best for Mother India !!

Yes, double standrards they are, if you look at it through lenses of uber-liberalism. Such is the case with people with mindsets of French Liberalism, living in India. Not anyone's fault. Further, I respect your opinion. As Voltaire says, "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.". And Ironically he was a French-Liberal. I guess that is also double standard for you.

It is interesting to see the double standards in your views, and your attempts to explain them.

Great post. Foolish, politically narrow minded individuals continue to hold this world to ransom. Hope some of them do indeed read this post of yours and learn a lesson.

Politicians have always used caste, religion, creed to divide the people and gains powers, money, property etc . Now a days, political leaders are using language and region to divide the people. These people should learn anthropology and history of human race carefully and then perheps will realize that difference on the basis of caste, region, language is baseless. I am a marathi speaking person but now feeling that in my own country India, i have become subject of tamasha by the politicians who are weakning the country for their personal gain. The so called leader talking " marathi asmita" do not go out of Mumbai and Maharashtra ( whenever goes, go abrod only) but we common marathi people has to go to other parts of country and witnessing that we marathi people has lost respect in rest of the country.

It's sad to see important assembly elections being fought on such emotional issues. But the heck, isn't this exactly what all elections in India all about ? Cheap and dirty politics.

I am dissappointed with Raj Thackerey for taking up such stupid issues as a part of his election manifesto, but I am more disappointed with the Sena and the BJP for being the lousy opposition and not targeting the spineless Congress-NCP government for more proper development and infrastructure issues.

Before deciding as to whom does Mumbai belong, we first need to build Mumbai. We need to make it into a world class city, by providing the infrastructure, regulating traffic and making the common man feel the progress that the netas claim to have made. Once this is done, we can fight for years and decide as to whom the city belongs too . . .

The optimist in me has died long ago.

Hell, as someone said, the Mahatma would have never wanted his Birthday to be national holiday.

We should try and seriously practise a few of his ideals in this bad world of today.

But we are Indians. We like heroes, be it Amitabh Bacchan, whose birthday probably got more airtime than the Mahatma himself this year...

Sad isn't it ?
